The News and Observer is reporting at 11:38 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2010 that the
Republicans have taken control of both houses of the NC General Assembly. This is has not occurred since 1898 or 112 years. This is significant for our area, as Mark Basnight will lose his position as Senate President Pro Tem, and Representative Bill Owens, will
probably lose his position as chair of the powerful Rules, Calendar & Operations of the House Committee, since committee chair are appointed
by the Speaker of the House, which will be a Republican.
